Investigation underway into Mt Albert crash

One person has sustained moderate injuries following a crash on New North Road, Mt Albert involving a Police vehicle.

Just after 11am, a Police unit was making enquiries for a vehicle of interest in the Mt Albert area.

Around this time a member of the public’s vehicle has exited a driveway on New North Road.

The Police vehicle attempted to evade the vehicle however it has collided with the vehicle and a nearby bus stop.

One of the occupants has sustained moderate injuries in the crash and has been transported to Auckland City Hospital.

No Police staff have required hospitalisation.

The Serious Crash Unit is attending the scene and an investigation will now commence into the circumstances of the crash.

Police are speaking with witnesses at the scene. Anyone who witnessed the crash, and has not yet spoken to Police, is asked to contact 105 quoting the reference number P054436004.

New North Road is currently closed between Mt Albert Road and McLean Street while enquiries at the scene are carried out.

Police thank motorists for their cooperation while road closures are place, and these will be cleared as soon as possible.
