An arrest has been made as Waitematā East Police continue to investigate a burglary at a Birkenhead jewellery store at the weekend.

At the time, a vehicle had been used to gain entry to the store on Mokoia Road in the early hours of 16 April.

Jewellery was stolen during the burglary, with offenders fleeing in a separate vehicle.

Acting Detective Sergeant Mike Watts says that vehicle was sighted by Police early this morning in Dannemora and failed to stop.

“The vehicle was not pursued but was eventually spiked and occupants taken into custody near Bombay Hills,” he says.

“Following further enquiries, one of those occupants has since been charged over the Birkenhead burglary.”

A 14-year-old male is set to appear in the Manukau Youth Court, charged with burglary and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.

Acting Detective Sergeant Watts says the area’s Tactical Crime Unit continues to investigate the burglary, and others within the Waitematā East Policing area.

“Our staff are continuing to investigate these incidents and work to hold those offenders to account. As such we cannot rule out further arrests or charges being laid.”
