A Public health warning has been put in place for Raglan Harbour, as routine sampling at this site has identified very high levels of E. coli bacteria. This Public Health warning will remain in place until further testing indicates that the levels are below the recommended value.

This warning means that the Raglan Harbour is not suitable for swimming or other recreational activity involving contact with the water.

Dr Margot McLean, Te Whatu Ora Medical Officer of Health for Waikato recommends that where Public Health warnings are in place, the water should be avoided for swimming or other recreational activity.

“If you do use the water for recreational purposes when a warning is in place, then you are potentially exposing yourself to harmful pathogens that can cause illnesses including gastroenteritis (diarrhoea and vomiting), respiratory illnesses, skin infections and ear infections).
