Regular users of SH54 Cheltenham-Hunterville Road, and holidaymakers heading north to Putai Ngahere Domain (Vinegar Hill) this summer should be aware of upcoming road closures.
From next Monday (13 February) to Friday 24 February, and Monday 28 February to Saturday 11 March, SH54 Cheltenham-Hunterville Road will be closed at night between Tapuae Road and Rangitikei Valley Road.
The closures will be in place from 6pm to 6am daily during the two 11-night work periods and the detour route is SH1 (SH54 – North Street – Halcombe Road and onto SH1 and then in reverse for east bound travellers.)
Maintenance and Operations System Manager for Manawatū-Whanganui, Rob Service, says the road closures will allow contractors to carry out important site repairs where the underside of the road has dropped away.
“We will also install sections of safety rail on top of the new walls.
“Please plan ahead if you are looking to travel in the area at night during the work periods as you will need to use SH1 for your journey rather than SH54.
“We’ll also have to close the road for one day at the end of the works, but when that date’s confirmed, we will let people know in advance,” says Mr Service.
