Arrest made following Upper Hutt disorder

One person has been taken into custody after a disorder incident in Upper Hutt last month.

Police responded to an alleged altercation between a group of people outside Upper Hutt Mall on Friday 18 November.

One person was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Through the great work by Hutt Valley CIB (Criminal Investigation Branch) and assistance from members of the public, we have been able to identify a suspect and make an arrest.

A search warrant was carried out yesterday, Thursday 22 December, at an Upper Hutt address.

As a result, a 23-year-old man has been arrested and is due to appear in Hutt Valley District Court on 10 January 2023, charged with Assault with a Weapon.

“Hutt Valley area staff have been dedicated to locating the person allegedly responsible for this act of violence and we are glad to be able to hold them to account on behalf of the community.

“This type of offending is not acceptable and the damage that it caused will not be tolerated.”
