While the flooding is not deep – NZ Police have requested the closure due to safety.
There is no timeframe yet for when it will re-open as the river is extremely high and posing a risk.
Detour for both directions is via read Wilson Road, Old Coach Road and Pukehina Station Road.
There are also reports of a large slip on State Highway 33 between Allport Road and Okere Falls. Contractors are en route. Drivers should avoid the area or use SH36.
