Police are now in a position to confirm one person has died, following a crash in Kaikōura this morning.
The crash, involving a truck and a car, occurred shortly before 6am on SH1, Hapuku.
One person died at the scene.
A second person is reported to have received minor injuries.
SH1, north of Kaikōura, is expected to be closed for some time while emergency services attend.
There are no diversions.
Motorists are asked to please avoid the area or expect significant delays.
