Across artificial intelligence, carbon zero technology, wearable heath technology, machine learning and more, AUT University is at the forefront of multidisciplinary research and innovation.

“The bold vision for ECMS under the new framework is clear: to produce industry and future-ready graduates for a globally connected world and to undertake research that makes a difference to the communities we serve,” Head of School, Professor Aman Oo says.

ECMS will achieve this by building impactful and long-lasting partnerships with industry, government and other education providers, he says.

The new research frameworks brings ECMS research centres and labs together as Research Entities under five core themes: Data Science, Health Technologies, Material Sciences, Energy and Intelligent Systems.

“These core themes build on our existing strengths and direct attention to current and future needs of communities and industry,” Professor Oo says.

“Multidisciplinary research in fields like artificial intelligence and zero carbon technology will have a huge impact on how we shape our future, with innovation across manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, education and more.”

In line with ECMS’ commitment to work collaboratively alongside industry and communities, the school is also offering flexible workspaces to businesses seeking new ways to partner, innovate and grow alongside the University.

By granting businesses access to the stimulating and supportive environment of AUT’s purpose-built WZ precinct, in Auckland’s CBD, the programme will help small, medium and large-sized organisations maximise their competitiveness and create new market opportunities, Professor Oo says.

“By leveraging both the expertise and the facilities of ECMS, innovative ideas can be translated into successful business outcomes through advanced technologies and applied research.

“Under the new framework, we seek to improve synergies and collaboratively raise the level of our research performance, quality, visibility and impact. We seek to demonstrate our capability to industry, government, and the broader research community for ECMS, the Design and Creative Technologies Faculty and for AUT University.”
