Headline: Have your say on charging model planned for Companies Office registers

The Companies (Levies) Amendment Bill provides for a new, consolidated charging model for Companies Office registers. The Bill has been referred to the Finance and Expenditure Committee, and they are accepting submissions until Wednesday 27 July 2022.

Background on the bill

The Companies (Levies) Amendment Bill was introduced to Parliament in June. The aim of the new charging model is to make the best use of the money we collect from users of our registers and provide more information about what the money is being used for. The new model will reflect the realities of running corporate and business registries in today’s world. It will also help achieve value for money in our registry functions.

The new legislation will allow us to collect levies from Companies Office users to help fund our registry system of 16 different registers. We will still charge fees for specific activities on registers, like filing an annual return.

The new charges are likely to come into effect in late 2023 or early 2024.

There will also be an opportunity to have your say on the new charges

Our new charges will be set after a public consultation. We will provide more information on this consultation next year, including how you can have your say.
