This year’s University of Otago Professional Staff Conference will be an online event – making it accessible to a wider range of staff.
“Being online will make the conference more equitable and much more accessible. You’ll be able to dip in and dip out and staff from outside Dunedin won’t have to travel to attend,” says Conference Chair Suzy Keene.
The aim of the conference, which runs from Wednesday 31 August to Thursday 1 September, is to provide professional development, as well as foster connections among professional staff.
This year’s theme is Te Herenga Tangata: Connected and the event will offer a range of presentations, speakers and different types of content accessible wherever staff are based.
“The conference runs over two days but we are planning on having videos and resources available for a whole week,” Suzy says.
Organisers are seeking content and have put out a call for the following:
• Delivering a short presentation (this can be pre-recorded or designed as a live session)
• Facilitating an online workshop (this could be a panel discussion, a Community of Practice etc.)
• Creating a short video connecting us with your workplace, what you do, or how you positively impact our students
• Any form of content that can be shared online that connects us to the theme
Are you interested in signing up for direct information about attending or would you like to create content? Send through an outline or idea by 10 June. More details are available here
Suzy says staff are welcome to be creative: If you want to create a short video about how you connect with students or how you connect with staff or even what do you do in your workplace – that’s fine. I’d be happy with songs, poems or funny videos.”
