Eastern District Police continue to investigate the death of a 19-month-old toddler who passed away in Starship Hospital on 10 January 2022.

Police can also now name the child – she was Casino Ataria Wharehinga.

Casino sadly passed away as a result of critical injuries she suffered at a residential address in Te Hapara, Gisborne.

Police launched a homicide investigation following Casino’s death, and are keen to speak to anyone who may be able to assist Police with their enquiries.

“This is a tragic start to 2022 – I would encourage anyone with information, even if they think it might not be relevant, to please come forward.”
