Police can now release the names of the two men who died following a water-related incident in the Manawatū River on 2 January.
They were Toetu Tonisitino, 39 and Aukusitino Ioane, 25 both of Palmerston North.
Police’s thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to their families.
Police will continue to make enquiries on behalf of the Coroner to establish how this tragedy occurred.
As the matter has been referred to the Coroner, Police are unable to comment further regarding the cause of death.
