A man has died in a collision between a tractor and a train in Orari, between Geraldine and Temuka, last night.
It happened at the railway crossing on Hawke Road around 10:10pm.
The driver of the tractor received medical attention at the scene but unfortunately was not able to be revived.
The train driver was uninjured.
Hawke Road was closed for a time while the Serious Crash Unit examined the scene.
Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
