“Work is now ramping up significantly in the lead-in to the summer holidays, so we thank all drivers and road users for their patience using the detour routes and slowing around crews and other road users,” says Emma Speight, Director Regional Relationships for Waka Kotahi.
“This work and the new detours start in the second week of the school holidays and we are aiming to progress as much as we can before the Christmas shut-down.”
From this Sunday, 10 October, work will start on installing the pedestrian signals at the existing zebra crossing on High Street, north of Wallace Street, and the right-hand turn lane into Wallace Street.
It will involve road closures for Wallace Street during the day and night, and a night-time road closure for a section of High Street. Detours will be in place.
Wallace Street, Motueka – day and night road closure
For around five weeks from Monday 11 October, the entry off High Street into Wallace Street will be closed, with a detour in place. People will need to use the detour around Greenwood, Wilkinson and Tudor Streets. High Street will remain open during the day.

On Monday 18 October, crews will move onto stage two of the roundabout construction, working on the northwest corner of the intersection in front of the Clock Tower.
Waka Kotahi is still on track to start stage 3 in early November, which involves work on the southwestern corner in front of the Department of Conservation building.
