This submission is made on behalf of Amnesty International Aotearoa New Zealand (AIANZ) to provide a human rights lens on the Counter-Terrorism Legislation Bill 2021 [the Bill], which seeks to amend the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002, the Search and Surveillance Act 2012, and the Terrorism Suppression (Control Orders) Act 2019.
Amnesty International is a global movement of over 10 million people who protect human dignity and defend human rights. In Aotearoa New Zealand, there are approximately 40,000 members and we work on a wide range of human rights issues of both national and international significance.
This submission outlines AIANZ’s key concerns and makes a series of reccomdendations.
