Police investigating the violent assault of a 69-year-old woman in New Lynn earlier this week have had an overwhelming response from members of the public coming forward with valuable information.

Police have been supporting the victim who was assaulted and robbed in the ground level car park of the LynnMall Shopping Centre on Wednesday morning.

She has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering from her injuries at home. Police are continuing to support her and her family.

Detective Senior Segreant Mike Frost says Police have had an overwhelming number of people come forward with information since a public appeal was issued on Thursday.

“We want to thank those people who contacted Police with information. Due to this valuable information, we are confident we have identified the alleged offender,” he says.

“We are now making a number of enquiries to locate that person and hold them to account.”

Police enquiries are ongoing and Police are still interested in hearing from anyone who may have information they believe could help us with this case, or help locate this person.

Anyone with information is asked to call 105 quoting file number 210623/9194, or send us a message on Facebook or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
