Hastings Police thank members of the public following serious assault

Hastings Police would like to thank members of the public who assisted following a serious assault this morning.

Police were notified at about 11:00am that a man in his seventies had been assaulted in the King Street / Heretaunga Street area.

Members of the public called emergency services and assisted the victim, providing first aid until an ambulance arrived.

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Members of the public also followed the alleged offender and assisted Police in locating him nearby.

As a result, a 27-year-old man was quickly arrested.

He will appear in the Hastings District Court tomorrow facing three assault charges stemming from this incident.

Police thank those people who offered their assistance and enabled a swift resolution to this incident.

We also ask anyone who witnessed the assault, and has not yet spoken to Police, to get in touch.
