Please attribute to acting Detective Inspector Karen Bright, Counties Manukau CIB:
An investigation into the death of a man after he was hit by a vehicle in Māngere is continuing today.
Police can now confirm that one man has been arrested over yesterday’s incident on Thomas Road.
A 21-year-old has been charged with failing to stop and ascertain injury over the incident.
He is due to appear in the Manukau District Court today, however we cannot rule out further charges being laid as part of the investigation.
The scene examination on Thomas Road has now been completed, but Police remain present at the nearby address that we attended following the incident.
A post mortem examination is due to be carried out today. Police will look to release the deceased man’s identity in due course once our formal identification processes have been completed.
Detectives are continuing to work through speaking with a large number of people to piece together the full set of circumstances of yesterday’s incident.
A number of vehicles have been seized as part of our enquiries.
I would like to reassure the Māngere community that Police are taking the incident seriously and our staff will be present in the area over the coming days.
Police would still like to hear from anyone with information that may assist our investigation.
They are asked to call Police on 105 quoting the file number 210609/0607. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
