State Highway 35, Tolaga Bay, is likely to remain closed for approximately a further two to three hours this evening following a serious single-vehicle crash.
It happened just before 7pm about 3km south of Wharf Road.
One person in critical condition and another with less serious injuries were both taken to Gisborne Hospital by ambulance.
Motorists are asked to delay travel and/or use alternate routes.
