Construction of a new retirement village in east Auckland has been approved by an expert consenting panel, under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-track Consenting) Act 2020.

The Ryman Healthcare village is to include 173 hospital and dementia care beds, and 123 independent apartments, on an undeveloped site at Kohimarama.

The Government referred the project to an expert consenting panel on 7 October 2020, and Ryman Healthcare formally applied for resource consents on 12 February 2021. Approval for the resource consents was granted today.

The Environmental Protection Authority provides advice and administrative support for the Panel Convener, Judge Newhook, and the expert consenting panels he appoints. The EPA is not involved in the decision-making.
