Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises road resurfacing work will get underway on State Highway 44 St Aubyn Street between Egmont Street and Liardet Street in New Plymouth from Wednesday 24 March to Monday 29 March.

Crews will be onsite between 9.30am and 10pm on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday. Work will not be undertaken on Saturday but detours and traffic management will remain in place.

The lanes on the Centre City side of St Aubyn Street will be closed. The two lanes on the sea side of St Aubyn Street, will take both north- and south-bound traffic with a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place.

There will be sign-posted detours in place.

Please take extra care, reduce your speed and follow directions of traffic management staff and signage for the safety of road users and our road workers.

 Further information:

  • The Centre City Car Park will remain open, with access from Gill Street only.
  • The Wind Wand Carpark will remain open, left in and left out turning traffic only.
  • The car park under Puke Ariki will be closed while the works are carried out.
  • The Richmond Carpark will remain open.
  • Some bus routes will change slightly, please refer to the Tranzit Timetable.
  • Chip seal, bitumen and other road materials require time to fully settle after they are put in place, so please treat all new surfaces with extra care. Avoid excessive speed, sharp turns and heavy breaking.
  • All new roadworks are routinely monitored and, in some cases, we may need to return to the site to sweep and repaint road markings or other finishing work.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience while we undertake this essential work.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
