Media advisory: First hearing for Pūaotanga – the independent review into primary school staffing

WHAT
Twelve submissions will be heard on Monday at the first hearing of Pūaotanga – the independent review into primary school staffing. 

The speakers will talk for 10 minutes each about their own experience and concerns over staffing and resourcing in primary schools. They represent a range of schools and roles including teachers, teacher aides, principals, parent groups, academics and special schools. 

Submissions will be heard by the review panel which is chaired by Steve Maharey and includes Whetū Cormick, Dr Cathy Wylie and Peter Verstappen. 

The hearing will open with a mihi whakatau led by the students of May Road School. Media are welcome to attend from 9.15am onwards.

9.30am: Informal mihi whakatau followed by cup of tea 
10am: Opening from Steve Maharey 
10.05am – 12.30pm: Submissions 
12.30pm – 1pm: Lunch 
1pm – 3.45pm: Further submissions
