Roadside surveys on key Bay of Plenty state highways tomorrow

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises roadside surveys will be carried out at five locations on state highways in the Bay of Plenty tomorrow, Tuesday 16 March.

The five locations include:

  • State Highway 33, Paengaroa
  • State Highway 2, Pongakawa, Pongakawa Service Centre
  • State Highway 36, The Lakes, Takitimu Drive near SH36/Kennedy Road roundabout
  • State Highway 29, Tauriko
  • SH2, Te Puna, near Clarke Road

Vehicles will be selected at random for the survey and will be directed to a safe area on the roadside. Traffic management will be set up at each site, with temporary speed limits in place.

The voluntary and anonymous survey, designed to take around a minute, will give information about journey, destination and number of occupants per vehicle.

The information being gathered is critical for updating the existing transport model which is used to predict current and future travel demands in Tauranga and the Western Bay.

Minor delays are expected on the days the surveys are carried out. If queues do develop, fewer people will be surveyed.

The survey is being undertaken on behalf of Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Bay of Plenty Regional Council and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
