Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises foam bitumen stabilisation work will get underway on State Highway 1 in Lichfield next week.

Foam bitumen stabilisation involves mixing bitumen into the existing road structure to improve the strength of the road. This technique increases the longevity and waterproofing abilities of the road surface in a quick and easy manner, decreasing disruption to road users.

Stop/Go traffic management will be in place with a temporary speed limit of 30km/h from Monday 19 October, with work expected to take four days.

Minor delays should be expected between 7am and 5pm, while work is taking place. Outside work hours, both lanes will be open with a reduced speed limit in place due to the uneven road surface.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speed, and follow directions of traffic management staff and signage to help keep themselves, other road users and road workers safe.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
