NorthTec is holding a special event at the Te Ahu Centre in Kaitaia next week, to showcase a student video and give potential learners a chance to discuss study options for 2021.

The event on Tuesday, 20 October runs from 4.30pm to 7pm. Staff from the Kaitaia campus will be available to give information about their courses, to help people decide what they want to study.

The social services department will be on hand to talk about studying social work and health and wellbeing from Kaitaia, along with nursing tutors to discuss their courses.

The evening will also feature a short video about Nopera Matthews, who lives in the Far North and is studying civil engineering with NorthTec in Whangārei. Nopera, a father of one, stays at Te Puna o Te Mātauranga marae on the Raumanga campus from Monday to Wednesday each week, when he returns home.

He is happy to share his story, to inspire others from the Far North to take up study options and cope with any potential obstacles.

NorthTec currently offers the Level 4 NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Mental Health and Addictions) in Kaitaia, which can lead on to the degree in social work.

Kaitaia learners can also complete the NZ Certificate in Study and Career Preparation, at both Level 3 and Level 4, which are both offered via blended learning, combining online tuition with face-to-face classes. The Level 3 certificate prepares learners for work or higher-level studies, while the Level 4 certificate has strands which can lead to degrees or diploma-level studies in social work, nursing or environmental management at NorthTec.
