Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is holding the On the Go Awards in partnership with Cycling Action Network and Living Streets Aotearoa as an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and contribution of projects that support a healthier, cleaner and safer transport system.
The awards celebrate the champions, leaders, organisations and communities who have put their energy and innovation into making any form of active travel a safer and more attractive transport choice for people. Previously known as the Bike to the Future Awards, the name has been changed and the categories expanded to go beyond just cycling.
Waka Kotahi welcome entries from any organisation or individual that can demonstrate projects or people that are making New Zealand a healthier, cleaner and safer place to get around.
Nominations close at 11.59 pm on Sunday 23 August 2020. Winners will be announced at the 2WALKandCYCLE conference dinner in Dunedin on Thursday 17 September 2020.
The categories and criteria:
Workplace or School award
This category covers organisations including businesses and schools which have made significant efforts to encourage and support travel by walking, cycling, and scooting for staff, customers, or students.
Built excellence award (cycling)
This category covers excellence in design, engineering and construction of transport infrastructure which has had a significant impact on encouraging more people of all ages and abilities to cycle.
Built excellence award (walking)
This category covers excellence in design, engineering and construction of transport infrastructure which has had a significant impact on encouraging more people of all ages and abilities to walk.
Outstanding contribution to making communities more people-friendly
This category recognises the outstanding contribution made by an individual to the promotion or advancement of walking and cycling.
Shifting the dial award
This category covers initiatives or organisations that have developed innovative solutions to overcome barriers that have slowed down progress on walking or cycling in the past. These may either be new ways of working that unlock faster or cheaper delivery of programmes or infrastructure, or initiatives that are scaling up delivery for larger impact. These may include collaborations with partners or integration with other programmes.
Taking communities on the journey award
This category covers excellence in communication, co-design or community engagement activities related to a project which resulted in a community warmly welcoming new infrastructure for walking and cycling.
The supreme award
Chosen from winners of the other categories.
