The New Zealand Army Band will entertain the Christchurch this coming week, as they perform a free concert at the Christchurch Town Hall.

This family-friendly event will be the first concert in the Christchurch Town Hall Auditorium since lockdown.

New Zealand Army Band Director of Music Major Graham Hickman, DSD, said it would be a celebration of efforts New Zealanders had put in during lockdown.

“We want this to be a joyful family event, with a bit of something for everyone.

“We’ll be performing a real variety of music, and are lucky to have a number of very talented signers who will be performing rock, jazz, and classical crossover.

“We’re featuring internationally renowned violinist Fiona Pears and jazz legend Rodger Fox, as well as our own world-class army musicians,” he said.

During the lockdown in March and April the band kept busy by producing online recordings and videos each week, including an hour long Anzac Day concert. The videos reached more than five million people around the world.

New Zealand Army Band Live features the Army Band in its many and varied styles from traditional brass band to big band to the latest hits. It will also be streamed online at www.brassbanned.com for those who are unable to attend.

“The band is really excited to present this concert to the people of Christchurch at this time,” Major Hickman said.
