Police are still at the scene of a slip on SH2, northbound before the Petone offramp.
One lane of the road is now open, however it is thought contractors will be at the scene for a number of hours and the other lane will remain closed.
There has been a significant impact to traffic heading north.
Motorists should consider transiting through SH1 or delaying travel.
