Kelray Heating has introduced the longest warranty for an outdoor heater in New Zealand

0

Source: Press Release Service – Auckland

Outdoor heating experts, Kelray Heating have extended the warranty on all heaters from 3 to 5 years. This will make Kelray Heaters have the longest, most comprehensive warranty for an outdoor heater in New Zealand.

This warranty extension demonstrates that the company believes in the durability of their outdoor heaters and has gone above and beyond industry averages to provide assurance to their customers. Kelray Heating, the sole New Zealand manufacturer of outdoor heaters, has always stood by the durability of their products as their key point of difference.

Clive Menkin, Kelray Heating Director, explains: “Durability is at the heart of everything we do—it was actually the very reason Kelray Heating was founded.”

Kelray heaters are constructed using marine-grade 316 stainless steel, a material that is significantly more resistant to corrosion in saline environments. This allows their products to withstand the harsh environments of coastal cities and towns across New Zealand.

Other outdoor heating products available in NZ are made from 304-grade stainless steel and anodized aluminium. These materials don’t fare well in NZ conditions, though, and can deteriorate and lose their lustre.

The warranty extension for Kelray Heaters is effective immediately, and it applies to new units purchased from this date forward.

Kelray Heating’s full range can be found on their website – https://www.kelrayheating.co.nz/

Auckland Dental Clinic Now Offering 3D Scans to Patients

0

Source: Press Release Service – Auckland

With a desire to help patients make informed decisions about their oral care, Clean Teeth Dental invested in an innovative and advanced intra-oral scanner. This digital device allows Dr. Marwan Wadea from Clean Teeth Dental to produce fast colourised images and provide a more interactive dental care experience.

According to Dr. Wadea, the intra-oral scanner will be used for every new patient exam, allowing patients to visualise their mouths easier than they could in photos.

“They will be able to see their teeth and bite in 3D. The 3D scan will make the experience more interactive and intuitive,” he says.

The device works by projecting a light source from the scanner onto the scanned object, such as a tooth or full dental arches. Scanning software then processes a 3D model, which is displayed in real-time on a screen for dental professionals and patients to see.

All new patients at Clean Teeth Dental will experience this technology for themselves during their comprehensive one-hour teeth examination. The exam includes two intra-oral x-rays, a clinical exam, a consultation, and treatment planning.

Dr. Wadea says that new patient exams are already comprehensive, but the intra-oral scanner allows patients to visualise their teeth, gums, and bite in colour, and receive potential solutions for any problems.

“Digital dentistry is the future for dentistry.”

Jackie Chan zooming in to the grand opening of We Are One

0

Source: Press Release Service – Auckland

Amidst challenging times, Chinese sculpture artist Yi Yang has overcome the demands of a post covid world and brings his latest exhibition of sculpture works to The Cloud over Matariki weekend. ‘We Are One’ is an awe-inspiring collection of over forty sculptures and paintings constructed of stainless steel and resin and inspired by Aotearoa New Zealand’s culture, mountains, rivers, and glaciers. Each sculpture stands at 40-50cm high and illustrates the resilience, strength, and determination of all New Zealanders as one, with simple lines and complex textures.

Yang, who is of Chinese descent, grew up surrounded by used car parts and scrap metal while his parents worked their jobs in China’s automotive industry. After digressing away from his original dream to become a well-accomplished oil painter, Yang turned to sculpture and, in 2014, famously depicted actor and film director Jackie Chan in a work named ‘Drunkie Chan’. The sculpture was inspired by the movie Drunkie Master and, like many of Yang’s other sculptures, is constructed from recycled vehicle parts. Chan is one of the most recognisable and influential film personalities globally, and Yang is honoured that he and his family were to fly to New Zealand for the grand opening of ‘We Are One’, however current Covid-19 restrictions in Shanghai are preventing them from attending. Chan has crafted a tribute to be aired on the night.

Inspiration for ‘We Are One’ was drawn from the passion Yang developed for the land, people, and culture of Aotearoa over the eleven years he’s lived here. The Maori people, in particular, with their traditional strong stature and protruding tongues, as well as the All Blacks rugby team and the Haka, are unmistakable influences on the exhibition.

Having previously experimented with mud, the finished sculptures are constructed of resin and stainless steel. The resin symbolises the purity of Aotearoa, and the stainless steel reflects the viewer, creating an instant connection with the work and symbolising strength and resilience.

The exhibition is expected to draw wide interest from the art and rugby worlds — notably the attendance of Alan Gibbs, owner of Gibbs Farm in the Kaipara Harbour. Gibbs was depicted in ‘Marshall Alan’ a magnificent four-meter high sculpture by Yang created as a tribute to Gibbs’ lifetime achievements in the wild west. Sir Richard Taylor is also pegged to attend, a longtime supporter and collector of Yang.
A number of All Blacks, both past and present, are also expected to attend the grand opening.

‘We Are One’ is a truly captivating collection of works that includes one unique design to be unveiled at the grand opening. This particular design depicts a phalanx of seven arrowheads.

They symbolise young lives nurtured by Aotearoa New Zealand, and hold a strong formation with an indisputable resonation with viewers. ‘We Are One’ is dedicated to Aotearoa and its people

Holidays In My Head Exhibition

0

Source: Press Release Service – Auckland

Born in 1967 behind the iron curtain, Volykhine spent the duration of his youth at a time when Socialist realism was the predominant aesthetic. His enigmatic compositions however employ a personal iconography of human characters, animals, and hybrids within familiar-looking but imaginary settings. They frequently incorporate references to the creative process, music, and everyday life, but ultimately eschew any fixed meaning.

The artist’s treatment of scale is deliberately arbitrary and non-perspectival, and often seems to allude to different time zones or planes of existence.

This exhibition brings together large and small format paintings in which figures are depicted against backdrops of suburban architecture or imagined interiors. While Volykhine develops each work instinctively without a preconceived idea of the finished result, there is visual coherence to the overall group of paintings on view, both in their similar palettes of strong, complementary colors as well as in recurring subjects.

The multiple storylines that characterize the large-scale works in particular, combined with their striking use of light and emphasis on the human figure and sometimes dreamlike interpretation, leave a lasting impression. Defying any traditional sense of realism while retaining a degree of plausibility, these paintings create their own distinctive stamp on
figurative art.

Volykhine’s work is held in both private and coporate collections worldwide and most recently features in the new QT Hotel Rooftop Bar in Auckland Viaduct, the new EBB Hotel in Dunedin, and in the NZ 2021 Home of the Year.

Parkour World Chase Tag Campaign

0

Source: Press Release Service – New Zealand

Take tag, the classic children’s game, combine it with parkour, and play it within a purpose-built 12 metre arena and you’ve got World Chase Tag (WCT), the first and only competitive tag league in the world. WCT is played by some of the most talented parkour and Ninja Warrior participants around the world.

Parkour NZ has been developing its relationship with WCT and has secured an exclusive opportunity to receive specialised one-on-one training to not only get certified but also be approved to certify others in New Zealand and Australia. This is great news for the grassroots tag events and leagues being developed around the country by Parkour NZ’s members, Regional Sports Trusts, and Local Government.

The window of opportunity is small, with the training having to occur in France during a Parkour NZ team member’s visit to Europe. Parkour NZ have launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover the costs of WCT certification, licensee training, quad building course, and necessary travel and work expenses for their staff in France.

If the campaign is successful, it will enable any interested party to receive training via Parkour NZ, license local and regional WCT affiliated events, and use the official WCT ‘quad’ (the arena) around the country, and play to whatever level of competitiveness they want.

Understanding Fair Pay Agreements Bill

0

Source: Press Release Service – New Zealand

Understanding these changes is important for employers and employees as it moves to establish a rigid framework for compulsory bargaining.

This bill seeks to provide a framework for collective bargaining for fair pay agreements across entire industries or occupations, not than just between unions and particular employers.

Should you wish to read the proposed changes introduced on 29th March click on this link:
https://www.legislation.govt.nz/bill/government/2022/0115/latest/LMS655984.html

This is the most significant amendment to the employment relations act since its inception in 2000.

The basic concept before the detail was announced today had already drawn severe criticism from an anxious business sector.  However, the bill goes much further than the early signals from government as to what it was proposing.  It envisages an entirely new section within the current act and returns Unions to their former role in employment bargaining.

It is modelled on the Australian Fair Pay system which is materially different form the New Zealand system of bargaining and pay systems. It is highly unionised with a collective bargaining infrastructure which NZ dismantled with the employment contracts act in 1991.

Not only is it bound to be a political magnet it will provide a minefield for dispute. interpretation and application.  It will require specialist negotiators to find the way through the proposed framework, adding cost to an already overladen compliance regime for individual small business owners.

Regulation only breeds legal arguments and disputes.

Whilst there is no doubt there are pockets of huge inequities in the pay systems in employment that need to be addressed these are not necessarily indicative of most workplaces.  Whilst slave labour and undervaluation of workers is anathema to fair working conditions this could arguably be a backwards step in a modern economy moving forward looking for a modern equivalent employment law framework not one dredged up from the past.

Grafting an Australian system onto a totally different employment infrastructure does seem to signal structural issues from the outset.
However, is this the panacea for fair pay or just an old-fashioned band aid.

Will it produce fairness and benefits across the board including more jobs, flexible working arrangements and increase productivity which NZ lags in?
Whilst it will entrench pay rates caught in a rigid pay structure. It is counterintuitive to flexibility which a rapidly fast-moving modern workplace demands which has been thrust on us by Covid -19 and advanced technologies.

Key parts of the Bill are:
• Eligible Unions can initiate bargaining for a FPA agreement
• The threshold for entry into FPA bargaining as an eligible union is 1000 employee or 10% of those intended to be covered by the FPA
• The bill also introduces a “public interest test” which gives access to the FPA system where there are systemic employment issues in the industry sector such as low bargaining power lack of pay progression long hours and contractual uncertainty.
• The Chief Executive of the MBIE will approve eligibility of the representation bargaining rights.
• The bill provides for employer default parties who will be listed in as schedule to the act and will be able to step in at the bargaining table where there is no employer bargaining party. Default employer parties will be the most representative employer entity in New Zealand. This will most likely be Business NZ.
• There are separate good faith obligations on the negotiating parties like those in the main body of the act.
• The Bill provides a template list of what must be included in the FPA as a minimum ie. Legal start and expiry date, normal hours of work, minimum base rate (including how they are to be adjusted), overtime, penalty rates, superannuation (if any) leave entitlements.
• It requires certain bargaining topis for inclusion such as health and safety.
• The FPA must also expressly include reference to any applicable governance arrangements for each party and the process for the applicable bargaining engagement
• The bill includes provision for dispute resolution based on the existing one in the act for when negotiations stall or fail to be ratified.
• If the matter cannot be resolved by dispute resolution, then either party can apply to the employment relations for to impose an outcome by determination.
• The final FPA (whether by agreement or determination) is to be submitted to the employment relations authority for a “compliance assessment” and approval by the authority. Once approved it then goes to a ratification process. If both parties to the bargaining ratify then it will move to
a verification exercise (a check that the FPA is legally compliant) the by the Chief executive of MBIE.
• Once verified the Chief executive of MBIE will validate the terms of the FPA in the form of secondary legislation and it will the terms and conditions within the FPA will be enforceable by law. It will apply to all employees specified within the coverage part of the FPA.
• Currently the Bill is going through the select committee stages. Any person or organisations with concerns should make submissions to the select committee. This is a significant piece of employment legislation.

Shade Design Launch New Website for 2022

0

Source: Press Release Service

Outdoor shelter and Auckland pergola specialists, Shade Design have recently re-launched their website. The new site provides more details on each of Shade Design’s products and was developed to reflect the growth the Warkworth-based company has experienced over the past two years.

“We felt it was the perfect time to refresh our brand”, explains Shade Design Director, Tom Holbutt. “After a strong couple of years, we wanted an online presence that better reflected our position in the market”.

Shade Design has had a very busy past 18 months as, due to the pandemic, Kiwis have spent a lot more time in and around their homes. This has led to a surge in popularity of home improvement products like pergolas and other shelter solutions.

“People have had more time to consider the outdoor space of their homes”, says Holbutt. “For a long time, meeting friends and whanau outdoors was our only real option”.

While the opening of borders and a return to normality will see many begin to look outwardly again, Holbutt believes that the popularity of creating comfortable outdoor areas is here to stay.

“Kiwis have always loved entertaining outdoors. Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t always cooperate. This long period staying at home has introduced many to the wonders of modern-day pergolas and shelter solutions”.

“A quality, custom design outdoor shelter solution can vastly improve the livability of a home and add real value”.

The new website is designed to showcase the diverse range of shading solutions offered by Shade Design and show that there is a product for all kinds of buyers.

“Shade and shelter technology has come a long way in the last few years. There really is something for everyone – of all budgets and requirements”.

Workbridge to employers, “your licence requirement may be driving great workers away”

0

Source: Press Release Service

With recent statistics suggesting that 70% of jobs in New Zealand require a driver’s licence, Workbridge is urging employers to think carefully about whether a licence is absolutely necessary before advertising a vacancy.

Workbridge says it is delighted by the Government’s recently announced initiative to improve access to driver’s licence training and testing, believing it will be life-changing for many who have found it difficult to obtain a licence due to financial constraints.

But the largest New Zealand-owned employment agency assisting disabled people and others who face challenges gaining employment says that at a time when it is difficult for employers to recruit, they could inadvertently be missing out on great people if they impose unnecessary constraints on who can apply for a job.

“There are jobs where driving is a core function of the role, and of course a licence is essential for those,” says Jonathan Mosen, Workbridge’s Chief Executive.

“But we often see job ads saying a driver’s licence is essential, when all that is required is travel from point A to B, such as when visiting clients/customers. Sometimes, employers slip in a driver’s licence requirement because they think this will ensure that the employee will make it to work on time. In cases like these, a driver’s licence is the means, not the end. Requiring a licence focusses on how something is done rather than what is done or how well it is done. That’s an own goal for employers, because some capable, conscientious disabled people who can do the job are unable to drive due to their impairment.”

Mr Mosen, who is blind, says he has had to challenge this line of thinking in his own career.

“All my life, I’ve used public transport, taxis, ride share services and sometimes a roster of drivers to get around. I don’t turn up late to work any more than someone who occasionally gets stuck in traffic, and I have successfully occupied many roles where I need to make it on time to appointments. Where appropriate, Government assistance is available so employers aren’t out of pocket. Yet sometimes, with online application forms for jobs I know I could have done; I have been faced with a simple checkbox to confirm whether or not I have a driver’s licence, with no means to explain that while I don’t have one, there are other ways of achieving the objective. Unfortunately, my experience is far too common.”

Mr Mosen says that as is often the case, inclusive policies that make it easier for disabled people to participate benefit a much wider group. For example, because of financial or environmental considerations, some people choose not to drive, and this is an increasingly viable choice as public transport is set to improve.

“When we remove unnecessary barriers to a great employment partnership, we all win,” Mr Mosen concluded.

Ends.
