Waka Kotahi contractors will give State Highway 53, Kitchener Street, in Martinborough, a much-needed maintenance makeover later this month.

oat culling work on the Remutaka Hill will see State Highway 2 closed for hourly intervals next week.

From Monday, 13 March, to Thursday, 16 March, the route will be closed to all traffic between 9.30 am and 10.30 am daily.

The closures are for an aerial operation led by the Department of Conservation to control feral goats wandering onto the road, posing a danger to road users.

The safety of road users is a priority. This operation will help reduce the risk of feral goats causing an accident on the road.

All drivers must be aware of this work as it will create traffic delays. Road users should plan ahead and either travel before or after the closure times.

As the goat culling is an aerial operation, it is weather dependent. Drivers should check the highway’s status before they travel.
