Crews will be starting road maintenance and drainage work in the coming weeks at two state highway sites north and south of Levin.
State Highway 1
From Monday 30 September, an important road rebuild (renewal) will get underway on a stretch of State Highway 1 north of Levin, between Roslyn Road and just north of Heatherlea East Road.
This night-time road maintenance work is expected to be carried out over 12 weeks, and finish by Wednesday 18 December.
Between the hours of 6pm – 6am Sunday to Fridays (weather permitting), this section of road will be reduced to one lane, with stop/go traffic management and a temporary speed limit of 30km/h in place. Outside of these hours, a temporary speed limit will remain.
Crews will also be completing daytime drainage improvement works in the same area, from 30 September to 11 October, working between 6am and 6pm. During these works, the road’s shoulder will be closed.
Crews will be back in approximately 12 months to add the second coat of seal. The purpose of this road maintenance work is to strengthen this section of road and improve its long-term condition.
State Highway 57
A short section of State Highway 57/Kimberley Road will be closed for 2 nights from Tuesday 1 October for maintenance work.
This maintenance work, which includes roadside safety barrier (guardrail) repairs and road patching, will take place at night between the hours of 6pm and 6am.
During these work times, a section of SH57 will be under a full closure for all traffic, with a detour in place via Queen Street East.
The detour route for all traffic is: SH1 to Queen Street East, Levin back to SH57. For southbound it’s vice versa. SH57 from the intersection of SH1 will be closed during work hours.
The detour route is expected to add an additional 5 minutes to your journey time. Outside these work hours, the road will be open with a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place at the work site.
This work is weather dependent and is expected to be complete and the road reopened at 6am on 3 October.
