The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) invites public feedback on proposed amendments to the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers (Self-Contained Vehicles) Regulations 2023.

The amendments aim to address concerns raised regarding specific requirements within the regulations. The public is encouraged to participate in the consultation process to ensure that their voices are heard in shaping these regulatory changes.

How to Comment on the Discussion Document:

The deadline for submitting feedback is 5pm Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Submissions received after this deadline will not be considered.

Written submissions are preferred and can range from concise letters addressing specific issues to comprehensive responses covering multiple topics. Participants are encouraged to include relevant facts, figures, data, examples, and documents to support their views.

Submissions can be emailed to responsiblecamping@mbie.govt.nz or mailed to the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment at 15 Stout Street, PO Box 1473, Wellington 6140, Attention: Freedom Camping Regulations Amendments submissions. Electronic submissions, preferably in Word Document or searchable PDF format, are appreciated.

How Submissions Will Be Utilized:

The feedback received will be used to compile a formal summary of submissions, which will be presented to the Minister for Tourism and Hospitality for consideration of the proposed amendments.

Submitters have the option to remain anonymous and withhold contact details. However, MBIE may reach out to individuals for clarification or additional information if needed.

All submissions will be published on the MBIE website (www.mbie.govt.nz), unless specified otherwise by the submitter. Any confidential information should be clearly marked within the submission.

Additionally, submissions may be requested under the Official Information Act 1982, and submitters can indicate which parts should be withheld and provide reasons for withholding.

Proposed Amendments to the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers (Self-Contained Vehicles) Regulations 2023:

Scope of the Discussion Document:

The consultation focuses on options for amending the direct venting requirement for wastewater storage tanks and the levy refund process. It aims to gather public input on the benefits and drawbacks of the proposed options to ensure fairness and efficiency in the regulations.

Policy Intent of the Changes:

The proposed amendments aim to achieve the intended outcomes of the regulations, which were developed to enhance public trust in the self-contained vehicle system and mitigate environmental impacts associated with vehicle-based freedom camping.

Evaluation of Options:

The discussion document provides an assessment of various options for addressing the identified issues, considering criteria such as cost, impact, administrative burden, and efficiency. Submitters are encouraged to review these options and provide feedback based on their expertise and perspectives.

Next Steps:

Following the consultation, any policy changes will require Cabinet agreement before the regulations can be amended. Implementation activities will be coordinated with the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Board (PGDB), and the effectiveness of the changes will be monitored and reviewed periodically.

Join the Discussion:

This is an opportunity for stakeholders and the public to contribute to the regulatory process and shape the future of self-contained vehicle regulations in New Zealand. Your feedback is invaluable in ensuring that the regulations meet the needs of all stakeholders and uphold the highest standards of safety and environmental protection.

North-Auckland tour operator, Kiwiness are introducing a new tour service, complementing their successful wine, brewery and food tours which take place around the Matakana Coast.

The new tours cater to the Auckland hens party market and Kiwiness owner and operator, Vanessa Wards believes the service will offer something a bit different to the current offerings available.

“I think people are getting tired of the same old, cliché hen’s parties”, says Wards. “There’s only so many Men of Steel shows that a gal can take!”

Taking place amongst the scenic Matakana Coast, attendees are shuttled between the region’s wineries, breweries, beaches, and eateries, experiencing the very best the destination has on offer. Acknowledging that everyone has different tastes and preferences, Wards works with the designated hen’s party planner to come up with the perfect experience for their particular group.

“If you have been tasked with planning a hen’s do, you know it can be quite an endeavor organizing everything and coordinating a large group of people. We make it as stress-free as possible. Just tell us the kind of activities you and the bride-to-be will enjoy, and we will create a custom tour, just for you!”

Previous Kiwiness hen’s party tours have included beach games at Brick Bay, wine tastings at Matakana’s best vineyards, and delicious afternoon tea at the rustic Sawmill Brewery.

“No two tours are the same”, says Ness. “Simply tell us what you love doing, and we can build a tour around it. The Matakana Coast has something for all types!”

The tours are perfect for both large and small groups with transport options ranging from Kiwiness’ signature 12-seater van through to a full-sized bus. Attendees can be picked up and dropped off at pre-arranged locations.

Kiwiness’ tour operators are laid back and will allow you enjoy your hens party experience while safely shuttling you around the region.

“All you need to do is show up, assign your designated bus DJ, and enjoy an unforgettable hen’s experience”.

Despite a significant downturn in the global car rental market due to the Covid pandemic, StressFreeCarRental.com continues to expand into new international markets.

Customers in New Zealand can now take advantage of StressFreeCarRental.com’s price match guarantee on car hire deals at car hire locations throughout the country.

The website compares car hire deals from a wide range of locations in New Zealand, including all major airport and city locations. Wherever they’re available, deals are also included that offer a low security deposit and can be collected using a debit card.

‘We’ve spent the last 12 months building partnerships with all of the leading car rental brands in New Zealand and we’re committed to making the car hire booking process as stress-free as possible. Our focus is on offering customers total transparency on all costs for their car rental, including all of the fees that are payable at the desk” said StressFreeCarRental.com CEO, John Charnock.

Launched in 2019, the website initially focused on the UK market and is now expanding into other international markets, starting with New Zealand which will be closely followed by Australia, South Africa and the USA.

‘New Zealand’s car rental market is very competitive, but I believe that we can add real value for our customers and our car rental partners. We’ve already started to take bookings since the end of the various lockdowns and we’re looking forward to building our business here in the years to come’ Mr Charnock added.

Car hire can be booked on the website by paying a small deposit online which is refundable if the booking is cancelled within 48 hours of collecting the car. Refunds are processed within 24 hours of receiving a cancellation request.
