New Zealand hip hop artist Sense Offence will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Rap Marathon by freestyle rapping continuously for 40 hours starting on Saturday, 27 November at 8am.

The attempt has gained significant attention, both nationally in New Zealand on major news outlets such as The Edge and internationally receiving commentary from famous rappers including the current world record holder George Watsky.

The attempt will take place via live stream, with the rapper also hoping to raise $40,000 to donate to charities and a not-for-profit organisation.

The 25-year-old will need to rap for more than 33 and a half hours to break the record set by American rapper, Watsky in 2020.

Sense Offence says “I’ve been freestyle rapping for nearly a decade now so I’m not too worried about running out of rhymes or anything like that. The biggest challenge will just be staying awake – but as long as I can stay awake, I can keep rapping”
He has chosen to fundraise for charities Oxfam, HUHA (a New Zealand ‘no-kill’ animal shelter) and the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand as well as not-for-profit organisation Electronic Frontier Foundation, dedicated to protecting free speech and digital privacy.

“These are all cause I’m really passionate about and things I talk about a lot on my music too”
The attempt will begin in Hamilton at 8am on Saturday, 27 November and be broadcast in real time via the livestreaming platform Twitch through to midnight on Sunday, 28 November, or whenever the attempt is completed.

Sense Offence announced his plans on the 22nd of October in a YouTube video titled ‘Breaking the Freestyle Rap World Record! (Sorry Watsky) #40for4’. In the video, he raps over the beat of Watksy song “Whoa Whoa Whoa” to explain his attempt to break the record Watsky currently holds.

“I actually like Watsky’s music quite a lot, so it’s nothing personal, but records were made to be broken!”

More details about the event can be found at www.senseoffence.com/worldrecord

Auckland based music project Street Georges are excited to announce the online release of their third single “Different Kind of Girl” Feat. Aung Zin in support of Myanmar democracy on Sunday 21 November 2021 Myanmar National Day.

Waikato born frontman Rich Beckmannflay spent some time in Myanmar and met rapper Aung Zin while in Yangon. “Different Kind of Girl” was inspired from looking at various systems of government and monarchy following the military junta coup detaining Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi in February this year. The song is intended as a gift to the people of Myanmar to let them know their struggle for democracy is not unnoticed despite everything going on in the world stage with covid.

“Different Kind of Girl” was written during lockdown in 2021, and without any option for live band rehearsal and Aung Zin being locked down in Singapore, the song took a natural journey into a dubish electronica zone. Recorded and produced in home studios, mastering was completed at Munki Studios by Mike Gibson.

Available 21 Nov across all digital platforms

Source: Press Release Service – New Zealand

Almost 50 years since stepping into the spotlight with number one hit ‘Lovely Lady’ and the anthem ‘Damn the Dam’ adopted by New Zealand environmentalists in 1973, NZ’s first singer/songwriter, two-time Silver Scroll winner, and three-time NZ Album of the Year winner John Hanlon is back with a brand new album: NAKED TRUTHS.

“Returning to New Zealand after decades abroad I found that being unknown to generations of Kiwis did not sit well with me,” shared John. “I felt the need to reclaim my proper place in our musical history. Not for ego reasons, but for posterity.”

With songs on the album arranged and produced by Russell Finch and Bruce Lynch, John’s music continues to surprise and delight his fans, old and new alike.

“The album is like a proverbial box of chocolates,” said John. “You never know what you may get from one song to the next, but my hope is that the unexpected changes surprise the listener.”

NAKED TRUTHS was recorded over 2020 and 2021––during this same time, John found himself facing his own mortality, falling ill and eventually landing in the hospital for a life-saving kidney transplant. But, through it all, became even more determined to release the new album during a time when many need the lift.

“When post-transplant complications had me knocking on Heaven’s door, my resolve to finish this album only strengthened,” John says. “Better get this done before I’m done, I thought.”

NAKED TRUTHS is available in New Zealand now through Marbeck’s in Auckland, JB Hi Fi, Relics in Dunedin, Slowboat in Wellington, Penny Lane in Christchurch, Soundlounge Kerikeri, and other good record stores.

Digital options, such as Spotify and YouTube, can be found at the link here: https://smarturl.it/nakedtruths

(PR.co.nz)

Avondale based music project “Street Georges” are excited to announce the releasing their Second Single “Next Lockdown (Covid Love Song)” at Auckland’s Portland Public House on Thursday 22 April 2021 with Special Guests Audio Zephyr, Claire Kendall, Ema Barton and La CoCo opening the event pending lockdown levels for Tamaki Makaurau.

Waikato born frontman Rich Beckmannflay has previously been known playing drums for most of his musical past. Rich now calls himself a recovering drummer transitioning to singer songwriter and guitarist early 2018. Inspiration for “Next Lockdown” was the observation of people going through lockdowns on their own, perhaps wishing they had made connection with a special someone before the lockdowns defined everyone’s shelter in-place default bubbles.

Next Lockdown was written during the first Lockdown in 2020, with a few rehearsal sessions that were interrupted by next lockdown alerts. Recorded live at Earwig Studios on 24 track analog tape engineered by Darren McShane. Mastering was completed February 2021 at Munki Studios by Mike Gibson during yet another lockdown, just in time for yet another lockdown leading into March 2021. Whilst trying to predict lockdown levels for a live release event, we hope there is no next lockdown!
