Source: Press Release Service – Christchurch

Petdirect, New Zealand’s leading online pet retailer, is expanding into new territory with two more physical stores set to open in Mt Roskill, Auckland and Tower Junction, Christchurch. This follows the success of its first brick-and-mortar store in Takapuna, launched in October 2024.

The company, which recently celebrated its fifth birthday, has grown rapidly from a pandemic-era startup into a market leader in the online pet supply space. Its move into physical retail runs counter to wider retail trends and reflects a reverse approach to the traditional model – starting online and building out into stores.

Founded in March 2020 by GrabOne’s Shane Bradley, Petdirect secured backing from Pencarrow Private Equity in early 2024 to accelerate its goal of becoming New Zealand’s top pet retailer across all channels.

“This isn’t just another store opening; it’s the next chapter in our customer-focused growth strategy,” says CEO Dave Anderson. “While many retailers are consolidating or closing physical locations, we’re listening to what Kiwi pet parents want – the convenience of online shopping complemented by immersive, expert-led in-store experiences.”

This expansion comes amid economic pressures affecting many parts of New Zealand’s retail sector, with rising inflation and reduced consumer spending. But pet care remains an outlier. The category has proven resilient as spending on pets tends to stay strong, even during downturns.

“The bond between Kiwis and their pets creates a remarkably resilient market,” explains Anderson. “When pets are family members, their care becomes a non-negotiable expense.”

That resilience is already delivering positive outcomes at home. Petdirect now employs over 100 people across the country, including a locally based customer care team. The company is leveraging its Kiwi-owned status and insights into the local market to deliver experiences tailored for New Zealand pet owners.

The new retail locations will include click-and-collect services, interactive elements such as a pet treat bar, and curated selections of high-quality pet products. The company’s Pet Perks loyalty programme provides members with consistent pricing across both online and in-store purchases. Its “endless aisle” solution means if something isn’t available on the shelf, customers can order from Petdirect’s extensive online catalogue while in-store and have it delivered – often by the next day in metro areas.

“Being Kiwi-owned means we make decisions right here, with a genuine understanding of local pet parents’ needs,” says Anderson. “Our physical stores will embody the same commitment to expertise, quality, and service that has driven our online success, while creating meaningful connections within local communities.”

Further strengthening its local credentials, Petdirect’s partnership with Air New Zealand’s Airpoints™ programme lets customers earn rewards on purchases made in-store or online.

Looking ahead, the business plans to expand its retail footprint nationally, with the Mt Roskill and Tower Junction locations forming just part of a wider rollout.

“The future of retail isn’t online or offline – it’s the seamless integration of both,” Anderson emphasises. “Our stores aren’t just sales channels; they’re powerful community hubs, and centres for building trust through face-to-face expert advice. They enhance our online business, and our online strength supports the stores.”

This omnichannel approach is designed to meet the expectations of today’s shoppers, who want flexibility, connection, and expert help – whether browsing in person or buying online.

Source: Press Release Service – Business

In a rapidly changing digital landscape, Deesha Bhatia, COO and Co-founder of Adclics, reflects on her journey from biomedical science to entrepreneurship in the world of digital marketing. With a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science and a Master’s in Audiology, Bhatia’s transition to the digital marketing sphere may seem unusual—but it was precisely her diverse background that led to the creation of Adclics, an AI-driven marketing platform designed to simplify digital marketing for businesses of all sizes.

Adclics was born out of necessity. After co-founding an e-commerce skincare brand, Bhatia faced the challenges of competing in a crowded online space against established brands with physical stores. The experience highlighted the importance of effective brand imaging, messaging, and digital marketing strategies. “One of the biggest challenges was building trust and engagement with customers. I quickly realised how crucial it was to understand the intricacies of digital marketing—from SEO to A/B testing and everything in between,” said Bhatia.

Despite having no formal background in marketing, Bhatia dove headfirst into the world of digital marketing. Through trial and error, countless hours of learning, she gained invaluable knowledge on SEO, SaaS, ROI, and CRM. She also recognised that many small and mid-sized businesses were facing the same struggles she encountered. This insight led to the creation of Adclics, a solution that simplifies marketing processes using AI automation and data-driven insights.

“Digital marketing can be overwhelming, especially for those who don’t have a background in it,” Bhatia explained. “Adclics was designed to make marketing accessible and manageable, even for entrepreneurs without a marketing degree. By leveraging AI and data, businesses can make smarter decisions, save time, and see real results.”

Adclics aims to revolutionise the way businesses approach digital marketing. By focusing on user-friendly tools and intelligent automation, the platform helps entrepreneurs and businesses effectively manage their online marketing campaigns. From automating tasks to providing actionable insights, Adclics empowers businesses to achieve their marketing goals with ease.

Bhatia and her business partner’s journey continues to evolve, and they plan to share more insights on digital marketing challenges and the story behind Adclics in upcoming blog posts and content. “Exciting things are on the horizon, and we can’t wait to share them with our community,” Bhatia said.

Source: Press Release Service – Auckland

M Aerospace Limited, based in Auckland, New Zealand, announces an update regarding the development of its Alfred version 2 rocket and the planned second test flight.
The company has undertaken a significant change in its avionics system development. After encountering unforeseen challenges with the Udoo Key micro-computer board, M Aerospace has made the decision to transition to an Arduino-based system with an integrated nine-degree inertial measurement unit.
Alfred is a crucial research and development prototype and proof-of-concept step towards M Aerospace’s ultimate goal: interstellar travel. This test flight programme is designed to gather critical data and validate technologies necessary for future long-duration spaceflight.
Ongoing issues with data logging capabilities on the Udoo Key platform necessitated a reassessment of the system architecture. Data collection is not just a vital component of the testing process; it is a vital component of the flight itself, providing crucial information for analysis and future development.
“While the version 1 avionics performed as expected, the persistent issues with data logging on the Udoo Key platform forced us to re-evaluate our approach for version 2,” said Michael Hodgson, owner-director of M Aerospace. “In retrospect, the lack of official documentation and support for the Udoo Key suggests it was only ever an experimental platform. Our commitment to acquiring comprehensive flight data is paramount to the continued development and refinement of Alfred, and to our long-term goals. We believe this change to a well-documented and supported Arduino-based system will provide the stability and reliability we require for both development and operation.”
This change in avionics hardware may impact the previously announced launch date of 5 January 2025. M Aerospace is currently assessing the integration timeline for the new system and will provide a further update on the flight schedule as soon as possible.
M Aerospace remains committed to safety and thorough testing in all its operations. The company appreciates the continued support and understanding of its stakeholders as it works to achieve it’s mission of advancing aerospace technology and paving the way for interstellar travel.
About M Aerospace: M Aerospace is an Auckland-based aerospace start-up company dedicated to the development and testing of innovative rocket technology. The company’s flagship project, the Alfred rocket, is a vital research and development platform for testing and validating new technologies essential for future interstellar exploration.

Source: Press Release Service – Auckland

Hiring expert Furniture Removals Auckland services can make all the difference in your moving journey. Professional movers have the expertise to handle everything from bulky sofas to delicate antiques. They understand the intricacies of Auckland’s traffic patterns and residential areas, ensuring that your belongings arrive safely and on time.

Choosing seasoned Auckland movers means you’re entrusting your possessions to people who prioritize care and efficiency. They come equipped with the necessary tools and packing materials, reducing the risk of damage during transit. Plus, their familiarity with the city allows them to navigate any obstacles that might arise, such as narrow streets or limited parking spaces.

Essential Tips for a Smooth Moving Experience

Start Planning Early
Initiating your moving plans well in advance is crucial. Begin by creating a timeline that outlines all the tasks you need to accomplish before moving day. This might include sorting through belongings, scheduling with movers, and notifying utilities of your change of address. Early planning reduces stress and helps ensure that no detail is overlooked.

Declutter Your Space

Moving is the perfect opportunity to assess what you truly need. Go through each room and decide which items you want to keep, donate, or discard. By decluttering, you minimize the volume of items to move, which can save time and reduce costs. It also makes setting up your new home much more straightforward.

Invest in Quality Packing Supplies

Protecting your belongings during the move is essential. Use sturdy boxes of various sizes, bubble wrap for fragile items, and strong packing tape. Don’t forget to secure valuable items with extra padding. Proper packing materials not only safeguard your possessions but also make loading and unloading more efficient.

Organize and Label Boxes

Clearly labeling each box with its contents and the room it belongs to will save you a lot of hassle when unpacking. Consider using a color-coded system or numbering each box and keeping an inventory list. This organization helps both you and the movers know exactly where everything should go in your new home.

Communicate with Your Moving Team

Maintain open lines of communication with your chosen Auckland movers. Provide them with all the necessary information, such as access points, parking availability, and any large or unusually heavy items. This transparency allows them to prepare adequately and ensures the moving process goes smoothly.

Timing Your Move Wisely

Auckland’s weather can be quite variable, so it’s wise to consider the season when scheduling your move. Aim for periods with milder weather conditions to avoid potential delays or complications. Additionally, booking your move during off-peak times, such as weekdays or outside of holiday seasons, might offer more flexibility and better rates.

Settling into Your New Auckland Home

Once you’ve arrived at your new residence, take the time to familiarize yourself with the neighborhood. Explore local cafes, parks, and shops to make the area feel like home. Remember, the physical move is just the beginning of your new adventure in Auckland.

Partner with the Best for a Hassle-Free Move

When it comes to moving, partnering with reliable professionals is key. They handle the heavy lifting, allowing you to focus on settling into your new environment. For top-notch service, consider reaching out to experts in Furniture Removals Auckland.

The ‘Ansum Pasty Co. is proud to announce the launch of its online store at ansum.nz, making handmade Cornish pasties accessible to customers across New Zealand. This exciting development follows overwhelming interest from British expats and Kiwis alike, many of whom discovered the hearty satisfaction of a proper pasty during their travels or served up by their grandparents.

“Customers choose us because they know a pasty will leave them satisfied, no questions asked,” says Adam Rickett, Head Crimper and Director at The ‘Ansum Pasty Co.

Adam’s journey to pasty perfection is rooted in his extensive culinary background. As the former Executive Chef at Euro Bar and Restaurant and Culpeper in Auckland, Adam has worked in some of New Zealand’s most renowned kitchens, including The Matterhorn, Pravda Café and Grill, and The Boatshed Boutique Hotel on Waiheke Island. Since moving to New Zealand in 2009, Adam’s dedication to fine food has earned him widespread respect within the industry.

The idea for The ‘Ansum Pasty Co. was born during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. “I wanted to deliver a taste of the past, and not just my past or the past of those from Cornwall, but everyone’s past.” Adam believes that anyone who tries an “‘Ansum” will find something familiar they can relate to. “The magic of the pasty is all in the pastry…It’s the smell. Even if you’ve never been to Cornwall, somehow a pasty really speaks to you and it creates an experience. Everyone should experience that.”

The online store, launched last week, offers nationwide delivery, allowing more New Zealanders to enjoy these handmade, traditional pasties. The response has already been overwhelming. “The interest we’ve seen has been incredibly encouraging,” says Jamie Armour, Business Development Manager for The ‘Ansum Pasty Co.

Jamie brings his own stellar credentials to the venture. A former chef who worked at L’Atelier Joel Robuchon (2 Michelin Star) in Paris, Jamie now serves as the IT Manager for Hell Pizza. Despite his busy schedule, Jamie dedicates his time to helping The ‘Ansum Pasty Co. grow. “Together, Adam and I have the right mix of skills to make this work. Pasties will be a thing in New Zealand!” Jamie says.

For Adam and Jamie, this isn’t just a business—it’s a passion project rooted in sharing a part of their heritage and craft.
Customers can order online now at ansum.nz or visit The ‘Ansum Pasty Co. every weekend at the Catalina Bay Farmers Market. Other Auckland market locations are listed on their website. Gift vouchers are also available, making them a perfect Christmas gift for family and friends.

Source: Press Release Service – New Zealand

DEC Construction, a prominent construction firm in Warkworth and surrounding areas, has announced it will expand its operations to Mangawhai. The company cites increasing demand for professional building services in the region as the primary driver for this expansion.

DEC Construction has a history of completing a number of successful projects in the Mangawhai, however, this expansion marks a greater commitment to servicing the region.

With the expansion, the company aims to support the growing infrastructure needs of the Mangawhai community and bring additional employment opportunities to the area.

Darren Ettritch, Director of DEC Construction, stated that the decision to expand into Mangawhai comes after observing the area’s sustained growth and development needs.

“Mangawhai has been expanding steadily, and we’ve been fortunate to work on a number of projects here in the past,” said Ettritch. “By establishing a formal presence, we can better meet the demand for reliable, skilled construction services locally.”

The expansion into Mangawhai marks a significant step for DEC Construction, which has built a solid reputation as local Warkworth builders.

According to Ettritch, “We see this as an opportunity to deepen our commitment to Northland, providing consistent, high-quality construction services to a community we already know well.”

DEC’s move into Mangawhai aligns with a broader trend of construction firms responding to residential and commercial growth in Northland. The company plans to maintain its existing operations in Warkworth while enhancing its capacity to manage new projects in Mangawhai.

Cornish pasties, a culinary staple in the UK and a favourite in Australia, have yet to enjoy the same recognition in New Zealand. Chef Adam Rickett, the former Executive Chef at Euro Bar and Restaurant and Culpeper in Auckland, wants to change that.

Known for his time in Cornwall mastering the art of the pasty, Adam questions why the dish hasn’t taken off in New Zealand. “The Cornish pasty made it to Australia along with the early settlers and became popular there, but for some reason, it never gained the same traction here,” he says.

Adam’s connection to the pasty runs deep, having trained as a young chef in St Austell, Cornwall, where pasties are part of daily life. “It’s not just food; it’s part of who I am. Every pasty is something comforting and people connect with the nostalgia it induces.”

In 2009, Adam relocated to New Zealand, quickly making a name for himself in fine dining. Adam worked as Head Chef at renowned restaurants The Matterhorn, Pravda Café and Grill and The Boatshed Boutique Hotel on Waiheke Island. Yet, despite his culinary success, he felt a persistent pull towards his roots. “No matter how far you go, some things never leave you. The pasty is one of those things. After years in New Zealand, I knew I wanted to bring that tradition here.”

In 2020, amidst the COVID-19 lockdown, Adam founded The ‘Ansum Pasty Co., driven by a desire to reconnect people with this timeless tradition. “I wanted to deliver a taste of the past, and not just my past, but everyone’s past. I’m convinced that the nostalgia of a pasty is all about the Pastry. It’s the smell. Even if you haven’t even left the country, a pasty offers something familiar that really speaks to you and creates an experience. Everyone should experience that.”

Today, The ‘Ansum Pasty Co. caters to both wholesale and retail markets in Auckland, with plans to launch online deliveries this November. Adam believes the time is right to introduce Kiwis to the pasty’s appeal. “New Zealanders love hearty and reliable food. The pasty is just that — simple, satisfying, and guaranteed to hit the spot. It’s bigger than a pie.”

Source: Press Release Service – Business

Latest business insolvency data has revealed the highest single-quarter figure since 2016, but an increasing number of Kiwi business owners are exploring alternatives to liquidation for survival.

The BWA Insolvency Quarterly Market Report has revealed insolvencies rose by 23% in Q2 2024 compared to Q1, and 36% compared to the same period last year. With 700 insolvencies reported between April and June – the highest single-quarter figure since 2016— the data underscores the ongoing economic challenges faced by New Zealand businesses.

Insolvencies in New Zealand by Quarter, including liquidations, receiverships and VAs.

Most sectors are experiencing increased business failures, with food and beverage, construction, and property and real estate services being particularly hard hit, the report reveals. The construction sector saw a 22% year-on-year increase, rising from 133 to 162 insolvencies. Property and real estate surged by 50%, from 62 to 93 cases, and food and beverage experienced an 85% increase from 27 to 50 insolvencies.

“While we anticipated a rise in insolvencies, the scale of the increase has been significant,” BWA Insolvency principal Bryan Williams says.

“Of immediate concern is the fallout that hits employees. When companies go down, employees lose their jobs, and with the current economic squeeze there are not enough places available for all job seekers.

“There will be many empty pay packets and demand will suffer as a result. Empty cafés and a worldwide abundance of wine are evidence of moderated consumer spending.”

Other influences on the economy include global politics: “We have the potential for stable governance in the United States towards the end of the year, which could impact the war effort in Ukraine and, in turn, decrease importing inflation.

“With the Reserve Bank’s recent interest rate reduction, there is some hope for economic improvement. However, there is much in the pipeline that needs to work its way out and it is doubtful that better cashflows will come soon enough to correct current insolvencies.

“It is inevitable that insolvencies will be higher than normal for the next six to nine months.”

Despite the outlook, there is a growing awareness and adoption of Voluntary Administration (VA), offering businesses an alternative to liquidation or receivership.

In the second quarter of 2024, there were 28 VAs, 5% of total insolvencies, compared to Q2 2022 were there were just five VAs for the period.

“The rise in the adoption of Voluntary Administration reflects increased awareness among business owners of their options when facing financial difficulties. We continue to field enquiry for this model as a way of helping businesses navigate through troubled times,” Williams explains.

Sector highlights – Q2 2023 vs Q2 2024
Construction: Up by 22% year-on-year from 133 to 162 insolvencies
Property &
Real Estate: Increased by 50% year-on-year, from 62 to 93 insolvencies
Food & Beverage: Increased by 85% from 27 to 50 insolvencies
Tourism: Slight decrease, from 9 to 8 insolvencies, down by 11%
Retail: Minimal decrease, from 39 to 36 insolvencies, down by 8%

Receiverships have seen a 62% increase year-on-year, from 26 to 42 cases in Q2 2024, indicating a more rigid stance on outstanding debt by creditors.

“Secured creditors are less willing to wait when they see signs of debtor trouble,” he adds.

Williams believes there is reason for cautious optimism. “We expect the upward trend in insolvencies to plateau later in the year as discretionary spending increases and economic conditions stabilise.

“There is light at the end of the tunnel and recovery will be driven by consumers spending less at the same time as producing more. Reduced interest rates will flow more revenue into the economy, aiding recovery.”

Glam Camping At Castaways, one of New Zealand’s first couples glamping venues and one-of-a-kind premium conference, retreats and events venue, has changed its name to ‘Cliffside – Conferences, Retreats and Events’.

“The change comes after a desire to realign the business name and vision to its environment – offering memorable experiences by connecting people with the outdoors, in a luxury off-grid fashion”, says Jasmine Shine, owner of Cliffside.

A dream turned to reality for local sisters, Serena and Jasmine Shine, the two took ownership of the initial Glam Camping At Castaways business after Serena and father, Gavin, turned overgrown farmland in to the ornate, rustic oasis it is today.

We know that spring is a season of renewal and rejuvenation, but for many, it also brings the unwelcome arrival of allergies. The pollen released by blooming flowers and trees can lead to sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion. However, here at the Devonport 7-Day Pharmacy, we can help you enjoy this season and appreciate the turning of the clocks as the days get longer.

Identify Your Triggers: Understanding which allergens affect you is the first step. Pollen from different plants can have varying effects on
individuals. Knowing your specific triggers allows you to tailor your approach to managing allergies effectively.

Keep Indoor Air Clean: Regularly clean your living space to minimize allergen exposure. Vacuum carpets, wash bedding, and consider using
high-quality air purifiers with HEPA filters. This helps maintain clean indoor air, reducing the likelihood of allergens circulating.

Plan Outdoor Activities Wisely: Timing matters when it comes to outdoor activities. Pollen levels are typically highest in the early morning
and late afternoon. Opt for outdoor excursions during midday when pollen levels are lower.

Protect Your Eyes and Skin: Wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from pollen, and consider applying a barrier cream or lotion to your skin before heading outdoors. This creates a protective layer that can help prevent pollen from settling on your skin.

Natural Remedies and Teas: Local honey, with its trace amounts of local pollen, may help build tolerance over time. Herbal teas like chamomile and peppermint, known for their natural antihistamine properties, can provide relief from allergy symptoms.

Consult a Healthcare Professional: If allergies persist or become severe, seek advice from a healthcare professional. They can recommend over-the-counter or prescription medications or even allergy shots for more severe cases.

At the Devonport 7 Day Pharmacy, we have an awesome team who can help you take proactive steps, you can embrace spring with open arms, enjoying the season to its fullest while effectively managing allergies. Remember, a little preparation goes a long way in ensuring you make the most of this enchanting time of year. So come along to the store or get in touch and we can work something out together.
