The case of a prized possession stolen from a New Lynn bus has ended on a high note.
The violin was allegedly taken from a bus on 1 August and Police had been making a number of enquiries into its whereabouts.
Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Wayne Kitcher, says the theft had taken a huge toll on the owner due to the cost of the violin.
“Staff had reviewed CCTV and as a result been making enquiries.
“On Wednesday Police executed a search warrant at a property in Rānui where we subsequently located the violin concealed withing the ceiling cavity of a linen cupboard.”
Inspector Kitcher says as a result of the find, two people received a tune up and a trip to court.
“This was a stressful ordeal for the owner and we are pleased to not only have recovered the violin, but to hold these people to account for their actions.”
A 38-year-old man charged with theft will reappear in Auckland District Court on 13 January 2027.
A 39-year-old woman has been remanded in custody to appear in Auckland District Court on 19 November charged with receiving property.
