The North Shore Beat Team has dished up a court appearance after a young person’s late-night adventure inside a shopping mall turned sour.

While at Westfield Albany for an unrelated matter, the North Shore Beat Team were approached by security staff in need of assistance following a burglary on Wednesday night.

Waitematā East Area Prevention Manager, Acting Inspector CJ Miles, says security staff advised Police of CCTV footage of a person entering a fast-food eatery inside the mall’s food court at about 11pm.

“The footage showed this person passing the counter and making their way to the back of the store, which was clearly closed.

“The intruder alarm activated and security has removed him from the mall.”

She says Police were able to view the footage and an officer’s eye for detail led to a person of interest. That person just so happened to already be in Police custody on unrelated matters.

“We called the mall security and advised them of the situation, and they were extremely grateful for the swift response.

“Partnerships like this are vital in ensuring our community is a safe place to live and work.”

A 15-year-old will appear in North Shore Youth Court on 11 November charged with burglary and wilful trespass.

ENDS.
