International singer and performer lends her support to help raise awareness of youth mental health and free counselling across Aotearoa.

International music star Rita Ora has joined I Am Hope’s Gumboot Friday campaign, lending her support to the New Zealand initiative providing free counselling to young people aged 5 to 25.

With a career that has taken her from the UK to stages and audiences around the world, Rita has built an enormous international platform. Her involvement gives Gumboot Friday an opportunity to reach new audiences and shine an even brighter spotlight on the importance of young people being able to access mental health support when they need it.

Having a global name of Rita’s calibre stand alongside Gumboot Friday is an incredible show of support for young people across New Zealand. Her decision to get behind the campaign helps carry its message further, bringing international attention to the work being done to make counselling accessible to young Kiwis.

I Am Hope founder Mike King said having Rita support the campaign was a big moment for the organisation.

“Having Rita Ora get behind Gumboot Friday is incredible. She is a global superstar with an enormous reach, and to have her use her support behind our young people here in New Zealand is something we are incredibly grateful for.

“Every day, we hear from young people and families who need someone to talk to. Gumboot Friday exists to help make sure they can access counselling, and having Rita stand alongside us will help more people hear about the campaign and the support available.

“I also want to acknowledge Authority PR for making this happen, and Rita’s team for being absolutely incredible throughout the process. It has been a pleasure working with them, and we are so grateful for the support they have shown I Am Hope and Gumboot Friday.”

Gumboot Friday takes place on Friday 6 November, bringing communities, workplaces, schools and supporters together to raise awareness and funds for free counselling.

Since launching in 2019, Gumboot Friday has funded more than 170,000 counselling sessions for young people across New Zealand, supported by a nationwide network of registered practitioners.

New Zealanders can show their support on 6 November by putting on their gumboots, getting involved in the campaign and donating to help keep free counselling available for young people.
