The Reserve Bank of New Zealand – Te Pūtea Matua is requesting an independent report from TSB under Section 95 of the Banking (Prudential Supervision) Act 1989.
Section 95 gives the Reserve Bank the power to require a bank to provide a report by a Reserve Bank-approved, independent person. Reports under Section 95 are part of the Reserve Bank’s supervisory toolkit and provide independent assurance and insight about banks’ systems and practice.
The Reserve Bank issued the Section 95 notice after TSB identified and reported issues concerning aspects of the computation and reporting of its capital and liquidity ratios.
TSB has advised the Reserve Bank that it has appointed Deloitte to undertake the report. A final report is due to the Reserve Bank in November.
As this is an ongoing prudential matter, the Reserve Bank is unable to provide any further comments.
