Police investigating a robbery at a Gisborne dairy this morning are appealing for help from the public.
Shortly after 7:45am today, three hooded and masked young males entered a store on Aberdeen Road, reportedly damaging property as they stole cigarettes, tobacco, and the cash registers. The value of the stolen goods was approximately $3,000 and the cost of the damage is yet to be determined.
The owners retreated to a secure room at the rear of the store. The three males unsuccessfully tried to get to the rear of the store.
They arrived and fled in a silver Toyota Aqua that was stolen the previous evening. This vehicle was recovered abandoned on Endeavour Street in Elgin around 8am.
Police believe the trio may be driving a Black Mitsubishi Outlander, registration ERG8, that was also stolen last night.
As part of our enquiries, Police are appealing for information leading to the identity of the three alleged offenders.
They are described as Maori and in their late teens. One of the males was armed with an orange mallet.
