Advisory: 1,250 school principals assemble in Auckland next week

Principals from all corners of the globe will be joining Aotearoa’s Tumuaki in Auckland next week (September 16 to 18) for the International Confederation of Principals 2026 Convention.

With around 1,000 local school leaders and international delegates attending from 20+ countries, this will be one of the largest assemblies of school principals this country has ever seen.

What: Media are invited to attend the opening of the International Confederation of Principals 2026 Convention

When: Wednesday 16 September from 8 am until 12 noon

Where: New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), Auckland

International and local principals will be arriving from 8am. The event formally kicks off at 9am with a pōwhiri, followed by introductory speeches at 10:15am and a welcome from the Minister of Education at 11.20am. Highlights will be the kapa haka performance from James Cook High School and a multi-cultural flag ceremony led by Auckland school students.

There will be opportunities to record and speak with conference presenters and organisers, local principals, international delegates, and NZPF representatives as school principals and education leaders come together to tackle some of the biggest issues facing schools.
