Police were quick to find the hiding spots of three men who allegedly fled after a dangerously driven vehicle crashed in Onehunga overnight.
Around 1.20am, Auckland City officers were on patrol when they were alerted to a Mazda Azela travelling on Church Street.
Senior Sergeant Tony Ngau Chun, Auckland City East Area Response Manager, says the vehicle was observed conducting a u-turn before driving at speed along Victoria Street.
“Due to the dangerous manner of driving, the vehicle was not pursued.”
Just four minutes later, a member of the public notified Police of a single vehicle crash on Grotto Street.
Officers arrived at the scene to find the same Mazda had crashed through a fence and the offenders had fled on foot.
Neighbours assisted with information while patrol units conducted area searches to locate the occupants.
“With Eagle guiding from above, one man was found on Captain Springs Road and a second on Church Street.
“Police then received a call about a suspicious person hiding under a vehicle on Grotto Street,” Senior Sergeant Ngau Chun says.
Officers attended and the man was located under the car and arrested.
One of the males was taken to hospital with moderate injuries sustained in the crash.
“Police would like to thank members of the public who were proactive in providing information about this offending.
“Dangerous driving has no place on our roads, and we will continue to hold these drivers to account,” Senior Sergeant Ngau Chun says.
A 22-year-old male has been charged with operating a vehicle carelessly and failing to answer district court bail.
He will appear in Auckland District Court today.
