A man has died following a water-related incident off the coast of Te Kao yesterday afternoon.
Police were called to Ninety Mile Beach at 1.20pm following reports a fisherman had fallen into the water.
Police, alongside Surf Lifesaving New Zealand and the Northland Emergency Services Trust helicopter, located the man in the water.
He was brought to shore and CPR commenced.
Despite best efforts by emergency services, the man was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
His death will be referred to the coroner.
