State Highway 8, Omarama-Lindis Pass Road, has been closed by a serious two-vehicle crash this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene, between Lindis Pass-Tarras Road and Birchwood Road, about 7.40am.
Two people are reported to have suffered critical injuries, while another has suffered serious injuries.
The section of Lindis Pass is closed in both directions and the road will remain closed for several hours.
Motorists should avoid travel if possible, or expect significant delays.
