Police are seeking information from the public following an aggravated burglary in Spotswood overnight.
Detective Sergeant Chris Allemann says at around 10:30pm, several people entered a house on Tumai Street and assaulted an occupant of the house while they slept.
“That person sustained serious injuries, and was transported to hospital for treatment.
“Further enquiries were made with the assistance of a Police Dog Unit, and two alleged offenders were located and arrested nearby.
“A vehicle believed to be linked to those involved had left the area and was tracked to an address in Hamilton where a further four people were taken into custody.”
Police believe this was an isolated incident and there is not any further risk to the public following this distressing event.
As enquiries continue, Police are appealing for information from anybody in Tumai Street and the surrounding areas who noticed any suspicious activity around 10:30pm.

An 18-year-old man is due to appear in the New Plymouth District Court today, charged with aggravated burglary and possessing a knife in a public place. A female will also appear in Youth Court.
Charges against the four people located in Hamilton are being considered.
