Police seized drugs, a firearm and ammunition following two separate vehicle stops just minutes apart.
At around 1am this morning, officers observed a white Audi travelling on Sandstone Road, Whitford.
Counties Manukau East Station Sergeant, Sergeant Robert Smith, says the vehicle was linked to a driver who should not have been behind the wheel.
“Police stopped the vehicle on Whitford Park Road, and the driver was arrested for driving while forbidden.
“With the car set to be impounded, officers conducted an inventory search of the vehicle and found a plastic package containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine.”
A search of the vehicle was invoked, and officers located cash, scales and a bag of a white powered substance, identified as cocaine.
At the same time, a unit further south were conducting a vehicle stop on Great South Road, Manurewa.
Detective Senior Sergeant Veronica McPherson, Counties Manukau CIB, says officers who pulled the VW Golf over smelt cannabis emanating from the vehicle and sighted an air rifle on the back seat.
“A search of the car was invoked, and officers located methamphetamine, cannabis, 159 rounds of ammunition, scales, and cash.
“The driver was arrested.”
Detective Senior Sergeant McPherson says Police will continue to target illicit drugs, illegal weapons, and the harm they inflict on our communities.
“Those who engage in these activities can expect to see Police stopping their vehicles and holding them to account.”
A 30-year-old man will appear in Manukau District Court today.
He has been charged with possession for supply of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and failure to carry out obligations in relation to computer search.
