Attribute to Senior Sergeant Nathan Snell, Wairoa Area Response Manager:

Police have arrested an offender found hiding in a property following ongoing investigations into recent burglaries in Wairoa.

Police attended reports of residential and commercial burglaries around the Wairoa area in June, with Police following lines of enquiry to narrow down suspects.

On Monday 29 June, Police responded to a report of an open door at a property on Delhi Street.

The person of interest was found trying to hide himself inside the house, at the scene of his latest burglary.

Officers arrested the 26-year-old man, who appeared in the Wairoa District Court the following day on two charges of burglary, his bail was opposed and he has been remanded in custody.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are likely.

Police acknowledge the distress burglaries cause in our communities and thank the community for their information to identify offenders.

Police remind homeowners to put security measures in place to prevent burglars from finding easy targets.

Lock your doors and windows and install stays if you can. Keep valuables out of sight and secured. Outdoors, you can also install CCTV and motion-detecting lights.

To report burglaries and thefts, contact Police. If it’s happening now, call 111. For any incidents after the fact, call 105 or use our service online by clicking ‘Make a report’.
