Muck around and find out

A rider has lost his bike for a month and been summonsed to court after making a poor decision in Moerewa yesterday.

At about 5pm, officers observed an unregistered dirt bike travelling at speed on Otiria Road before turning into Pokapu Road.

Mid North Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Mark Barratt, says the officers activated their lights and sirens to signal for the rider to stop.

“The rider has then unfortunately made the decision not to stop and continued on driving into a culvert and onto a grass patch.

“The officers have then moved forward into a position which prevented the rider from being able to go any further.”

Senior Sergeant Barratt says the man was quickly taken into custody without issue.

“A 31-year-old man has been summonsed to appear in Kaikohe District Court on 21 July and the dirt bike has also been impounded for 28 days.

“Police continue to encourage anyone who sees driving or riding of concern to contact us immediately on 111 if it is happening now.”

Information can also be provided by calling 105 if it is after the fact or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

ENDS.
