Attribute the following to Inspector Renée Perkins, Kāpiti Mana Area Commander:
Police investigating an assault on an 11-year-old in Whitby are appealing to the public for information.
Around 5.45pm yesterday, a man wearing a red shirt and dark coloured shorts ran up to two children on Albatross Close, assaulting the 11-year-old.
Another child intervened and the offender fled on foot.
Thankfully, they were not injured and are being provided support.
Police are seeking the assistance of the those within the vicinity of Endeavour Park to provide any information they can.
We are particularly interested to hear from anyone who has CCTV from the surrounding streets, including Albatross Close, Observatory Close, Tide Lane and Trade Winds Drive.
Police are also asking anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area between 5.30pm and 6pm to also get in touch.

Police know incidents such as this can cause concern in our community. We urge people to be alert, not alarmed, and be mindful of your surroundings if you are out alone.
Police are treating this matter with urgency, and the Whitby community will see an increased Police presence in the area, not only to investigate this matter thoroughly but also to provide the community with reassurance.
