Road crews will be hard at work again next week, continuing road resurfacing along the Hutt Valley State Highway 2 corridor.
The work is essential maintenance and will improve the highway’s surface – improving its skid resistance and making it safer to drive on.
This is the second of five weeks of planned work. Crews will work on the Dowse northbound onramp, lanes north of the Dowse Interchange, and a section of the highway south of Melling Link.
The Dowse northbound onramp and State Highway 2 slow lane at Dowse will be closed on Sunday between 10 pm and 4.30 am.
State Highway 2 will be closed to northbound traffic between Dowse and Melling on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights between 10 pm and 4.30 am.
Drivers must use local road detours via Lower Hutt. Southbound traffic will not be affected.
There will be no closure on Wednesday night, and State Highway 2 will be open in both directions.
Drivers should expect traffic delays from nine pm and should allow extra travel time while crews set up traffic management at work sites ahead of the closures.
Residents in Maungaraki will need to use the detour to access the highway each night of the works. Please plan your travel accordingly.
Further resurfacing work is planned along the State Highway 2 corridor until early October. More updates will be provided as the work progresses.
These works are weather-dependent, and schedules may change if bad weather occurs.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance thank the public for their patience as this essential state highway maintenance is completed.
