Work begins next week (26 August) to widen a section of road on State Highway 1, between Levin and Foxton.
The road widening is taking place to get the stretch of state highway between the Oturoa Road and northern Koputaroa Road intersections ready for flexible median barriers.
The barriers will be installed next year as part of the Levin to Foxton safety improvements work.
While crews are widening the road, road users will notice a week of lower 30 km/h speeds from Monday.
From 2 September, stop/go traffic management will be in place for the following 3 weeks – Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm.
Outside these hours, the stop/go traffic management will be removed, but the lower speed will remain in place.
Delays are expected to be less than five minutes and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi thanks road users for their patience while work continues to make this stretch of SH1 safer.
The work Is part of the SH1 Levin to Foxton safety improvements project.
The safety improvements project involves a new roundabout at the intersection of SH1 and Waitārere Beach Road, stretches of painted wide centreline, roadside and median barrier and new turnaround facilities.
Construction of these SH1 improvements is being completed in stages. Construction of all the improvements is due to be complete by mid-2027.
